It’s not only an emergency but also a matter of human dignity.” Catherine GERMIER-HAMEL, CEO of Destination Mekong Over the past years, Destination Mekong has played an active role in fostering a responsible and inclusive tourism sector, not only in the Greater Mekong Subregion as a single destination but also internationally. Through our flagship programs, projects and initiatives, such as the Experience Mekong Collection of small responsible travel businesses and social enterprises, our Mekong Innovations in Sustainable Tourism and Destination (MIST) programs and the Mekong Tourism Recovery framework, we have co-created a vibrant platform offering practical solutions and tools promoting a balanced tourism sector mindful of communities, cultures, and the environment. As we have gathered a new Executive Team starting in November 2021, we are strongly determined to intensify our collective actions aimed at raising awareness, sharing knowledge and quality contents, and disseminating accurate information so that our community of members, partners and supporters can contribute to the achievement of global peace, shared prosperity, social harmony and environmental sustainability. Within this framework, we are now proudly and resolutely expressing our commitment to join the efforts of the global tourism industry in tackling one of the biggest challenges of our humanity: climate change.
