Clear on Plastics - A Citizen Awareness Campaign

  • Published on February 13, 2022

“The amount of recycled plastic used by UK Plastics Pact members in packaging has doubled since 2018 and is increasing.??The resources saved from this change equals to saving just over a million barrels of virgin oil production and saving 140,000 tonnes of CO2e!” - Clear on Plastics

‘Clear on Plastics’ is a citizen awareness campaign on plastic packaging brought to the general consumers by The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and supported by The UK Plastics Pact.

The Clear on Plastics campaign utilises social media channels such as Twitter and Instagram (@ClearOnPlastics) to share the latest evidence and insights on plastics packaging to cut through the confusion and give citizens clear, evidence-based information on the complex world of plastics and the environment, helping them to make their own informed choices – for instance, explaining the role of plastics, demonstrating the balance between the benefits and drawbacks of alternatives and offering tips and advice on how citizens can reduce their use of plastic at home.

Achievements

The social media led campaign is amplified by influencer content and the support of UK Plastics Pact members, Pact supporters and other partners such as Local Authorities. Besides the social media channels, a website dedicated to Clear on Plastics has also been created which features different types of questions and issues. The questions and issues that citizens have about plastics are constantly reviewed so that the website can be updated regularly in order to bring new information and insight based on the latest evidence and scientific research.
