Green and Inclusive Habitat Development Strategies provide multiple wins in disaster-prone Uttarakhand

This programme--Technology Intervention for Mountain Ecosystems (TIME), Livelihood Enhancement through Action Research & Networking (LEARN), is a platform developed for promoting Science and Technology by involving premier S&T institutions, Science based field groups and voluntary organizations to develop and deliver innovative technological solutions for mountain specific problems and challenges in the North-Western Himalayas in the states of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir
The enterprises have been supported by a project titled ‘Delivery of Eco-friendly Multi-Hazard Resistant Construction Technologies and Habitat Solutions in Mountain States’ led by Development Alternatives, New Delhi with HESCO and FRI, Dehradun as collaborative partners under TIME-LEARN programme, supported by SEED Division, DST. The project aims to upgrade skills of traditional artisans (masons & carpenters) and enable their transition to S&T based production organizations and to develop new technologies for improvement and diversification of the local economy and use local resources and skill. FRI facilitated in technology transfer of the pine shingle and timber truss system for the community building constructed as model building under the project.
