Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative

The Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI) was established in 2006, with the goal to promote the development of a sustainable approach to tourism in Cyprus.

CSTI's mission is to contribute to the development of sustainable tourism that conserves the environment, supports local economy and promotes local culture. CSTI has developed several projects which are aiming to demonstrate the benefits of sustainable tourism to the environment, the society and the economy, to promote local culture, to develop close links between local suppliers and hoteliers/operators, and to educate and inform the public regarding sustainability issues.

Commitments:

In the framework of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative, the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative commits to:

  • Encouraging its member hotels and other tourism enterprises to join the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative and build synergies with initiatives such as the "Keep our Sand and Sea Plastic Free", ‘BeMed" and 'Plastic Waste Free Islands";

  • Advising and communicating successes to member hotels and tourism enterprises by sharing information on their upcoming workshops, seminars and awareness campaigns addressing plastic pollution;

  • Reporting annually on progress.

CSTI as a Supporting Organization for Glasgow Declaration will continue playing a multiplier role assisting its members such as hotels, restaurants, municipalities, communities, academic institutions and individuals to accelerate climate action through its projects. CSTI, by using its vast network of stakeholders, will continue lobbying with the Cyprus Government and Parliament in order to introduce new laws, regulations and incentives to the tourism industry to address the climate crisis. It will communicate best practices on addressing climate crisis, in Cyprus and abroad, to its members.
