The International Green Purchasing Network Webinar-Green Purchasing Network:A Landscape of Practice to Achieve SCP

The webinar was held to support the active collaboration among the International Green Purchasing Network members. Its objective was to discuss key messages for the <Green Purchasing Network: A landscape of practice to achieve sustainable consumption and production>, developed for market, private, business and public organizations. It was focused on the findings and recommendations for effectiveness of green purchasing network, as well as the practical action points that can be taken to improve the green purchasing performance.

Green Purchasing refers to the purchase of environmentally friendly products and services, taking into consideration not only quality and price but also the need for environmentally conscious businesses. It was recognized as an effective tool to shift toward not only reduction of environmental load but also sustainable consumption and production.

The International Green Purchasing Network is a global multi-stakeholder partnership founded in 2005, with its mission to (a) Promote globally the development of environmentally friendly products and services and green purchasing activities; (b) Share information and know-how on green purchasing and environmentally friendly products and services internationally; (c) Harmonize the efforts of green purchasing and the development of environmentally friendly products and services from a global viewpoint. 

The International Green Purchasing Network (IGPN) works with its members of Green Purchasing Networks from Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, India, Vietnam, China, China Hong Kong, and Chinese Taipei etc. through the activities of disseminating the green purchasing best practices and latest trends; regular workshops and webinars in regions; and to support the regional sustainable consumption and production transition by facilitating the green purchasing practices.

During the webinar, key messages and findings of <Green Purchasing Network-A landscape of practice to achieve sustainable consumption and production> was discussed. IGPN Members and representatives who contributed to the report shared their precious cases in advocating for green purchasing implementation. Meanwhile, the consensus was reached that the content of report is a comprehensive reflection of the fact that the application of green purchasing in government, business and private sector, contributes significantly to the alliviation of environmental problems locally, nationally, and regionally. After this webinar, the case report was officially launched to enrich the existing sustainable procurement tools and methods and positively support the sustainable public procurement implementation through cross learning and sharing of best practices among members of the networks towards the future development.
