New Online Toolkit: Spreading the word on consumption and biodiversity

  • Published on February 11, 2022

Changing our consumer behaviour is crucial for the protection of biodiversity - both locally and globally. Raising awareness about this issue requires well-presented information materials and activities addressing a variety of specific target groups. To support multipliers in their communication actions for nature-compatible consumption, a new communication toolkit is now available online.

The “Biodiversity Communication Toolkit” provides ready-to-use information materials, including infographics with everyday tips for consumers and policy briefs with recommended measures for decision-makers in policy and business. It also includes background information and studies on sustainable consumption for biodiversity, a communication guide and inspiring examples of existing campaigns. The toolkit is intended to support multipliers worldwide in raising awareness in their countries - but especially at the international level - of the severe impacts of prevailing consumption patterns on biodiversity and in communicating concrete actions.

The toolkit was created and is maintained by the international Working Group “Biodiversity Communication” of the Consumer Information for SCP programme. Its development was supported by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) and the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUV) through a research and development project implemented by adelphi research and Öko-Institut.
