Country Profiles: A unique window into the progress on sustainable consumption and production around the world

  • Published on February 14, 2022

A new Country Profile section of the platform takes a closer look at what your country is doing on Sustainable Consumption and Production, and provides access to the tools, resources, people and organisations who are contributing from across the One Planet network.

How many official Sustainable Consumption and Production policies have been submitted in Costa Rica? Who can I get in touch with from the government in South Africa to understand efforts against plastic pollution in my country? Are there any circular economy events coming up in Thailand this year?

Efforts to improve the ways in which societies produce and consume are happening all the time, and it is easy to get lost in the information. In order to answer questions like those above, and thousands more just like them, the One Planet network is pleased to introduce the new Country Profiles.

Looking at SCP from different perspectives

These profiles are a tool which allows the user to search for countries and access information related to their progress on sustainability. For each country, the information can be approached from several angles. On the one hand, the country profile provides a comprehensive look at the official progress that Member States are making towards SDG 12. Users can manipulate interactive graphics to see what types of SCP policies exist in their countries, what sectors they are addressing, and much more.

Officially reported SCP policies

And yet, this view of the official government progress on Sustainable Consumption and Production provides a look at only one side of the coin. What makes the Country Profiles unique is that they go on to provide a comprehensive look at the full range of people, projects and other activities in any given country, from across the entire One Planet network. This includes members on the platform, every organisation which is part of the One Planet network from a particular country, along with all the projects, resources, events, webinars and other news from that country.

Who are these Country Profiles for?

The Country Profiles are a useful resource for a whole range of stakeholders. Policy makers can check in on SCP progress in their country and across their region. The Country Profile is also a useful place to send government officials less familiar with the notion of Sustainable Consumption and Production, to introduce SCP to a wider audience of policy makers and help them to make the connections with their own work. The Country Profiles makes SCP more concrete, highlighting the relevant policies, actions, projects and people in a country.

Beyond governments, members of civil society can look for upcoming events to participate in, search for organisations and individuals with whom they can collaborate, or find inspiration in the vast library of existing tools and solutions already present.

The Country Profiles provide a huge amount of information, organised and segmented in such a way that different stakeholders can easily find the bits and pieces relevant to them and their mission.
