Western Europe and Others Regional Briefing for 10YFP National Focal Points and MEA Focal Points
The Regional Briefing for Western European and other States Regional Group (WEOG) for the 10-Year Framework on Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP) post-2022 was Chaired by Switzerland, Ms. Martine Rohn, as Vice Chair of the 10YFP Board and representative for WEOG. The objectives and agenda are included in the Annex to this report as well as the list of participants.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Martine Rohn, Vice Chair of the 10YFP Board conveyed the following:
- The 10YFP is mandated to implement Sustainable Development Goal 12.1 until 2030, however the original 10YFP mandate adopted in 2012 ends in 2022. Much has been achieved through this framework, but there remains a lot to be done.
- We need sustainable consumption and production (SCP) solutions in order to achieve the targets in Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) put in place by countriesfor the three planetary crises of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution and waste.
- To address these three crises we cannot work in silos. We need to better understand the needs of the MEAs, and what the possible SCP solutions can be.
- This is the first ever meeting that brings together 10YFP National Focal Points with focal points from MEAs to gather insights. All inputs will be documented to feed into the next Strategy for multilateral cooperation on SCP.
