Together with the Keep Sweden Tidy Foundation, the Swedish Chemicals Inspectorate has developed films, lesson plans and other tools, aimed for children and pupils, to help create a chemical-smart everyday life.

Children and young people are also consumers. It is therefore important to increase children’s and young people’s knowledge and awareness of chemicals in society and of sustainable consumption. Students can also inspire their parents by teaching them to make more chemical-smart choices.

Together with the Keep Sweden Tidy Foundation, the Swedish Chemicals Inspectorate has developed lesson plans for all ages, chemical-smart tips for schools and a factual poster with accompanying exercises for secondary schools.

Examples of messages for young people include

·        - The rapid development of electronics, for example, means that goods are often replaced before they stop working.

·        - High consumption rates of goods contribute to increased production of chemicals and increased waste.

·        - This stands in the way of a circular economy.

The different lesson plans are intended to give students the opportunity to discuss, critically examine, find new solutions and seek new alternatives to problematic chemicals in our everyday lives.

Ultimately, the demand for safe products may increase, as may the production of non-toxic alternatives. Consumers need to be made aware that they can make active, informed choices in their daily lives.
