Television program “Towards sustainable tourism”

Taking into account the importance of the tourism sector for Cuban economy, the need of its development based on sustainability criteria, as well as of contributing to Goal 12.b of the United Nations´s 2030 Agenda, a program on sustainable tourism was presented in "A Tiempo" program, transmitted by the Educational Channel of Cuban television.
• Disseminate the best practices of sustainable tourism in Cuba, to be a reference for the sector organizations. • Divulgate the contribution of Cuban touristic organizations to the fulfillment of the sustainable development objectives set in both, the National Plan for Economic and Social Development until 2030 and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development approved in 2015 by the General Assembly of the United Nations. • Increased knowledge about sustainable tourism in the sector organizations. • Increasing interest of the organizations located in the main tourist destinations in improving their practices and get national environmental awards. At present, the Iberostar Varadero hotel, host of the program filming and winner of the National Quality Award 2017 and National Environmental Award 2019, is aspiring to EarthCheck and the Iberoamerican Quality Award. • Improvement of the performance of tourism organizations in terms of efficiency in the use of natural resources, pollution prevention, adaptation to climate change and mitigation, employee education for the sustainable development and environmental communication. • Participation of the tourism organizations in the processes of granting the National Environmental Recognition and the National Quality and Environment Awards as the first step to aspire to international certifications. 1- Program presentation in different tourist destinations and training activities. 2- Compilation of sustainable tourism practices developed in the country´s main tourist destinations.
