Reducing food waste: 4GOODFOOD program

  • Published on February 14, 2019
Costa cruises launched a programme called for-good-food with the ambitous goal to halve food waste across its fleet of 14 ships by 2020.
It is the first of a kind and could be an example for a segment (cruise) that more or less "receives" more or less 25 million tourists a year. This means that if cruises alltogether were a destination they would be appoximately the 15th most visited destination of the world. And also it is a segment which is growing fastest than the global average for tourism. At 5,2% approx instead of 3,9% for the world, In the beginning of 2017, Costa initiated a partnership with Winnow the innovative technological solution for food waste reduction and applied it in Costa Diadema ship. The piloting involved several steps as mentioned above and in one year Costa Diadema already succeeded to halve food waste with the considerable reduction in CO2.
