Red Rocks Tree Planting Program

The tree planting campaigns promotes both physical and mental health benefits through being the main component in reducing air pollution they support community well being. Climate change mitigation and habitat Climate change directly impacts where people live with urban heat effects increasing by the impact of heat waves, when trees are incorporated into the built environment they will reduce a city's temperature by a couple of degrees 9°C. This reduction of temperature in major cities can ultimately help reduce the impact of climate change on human life. To ramp up its environmental conservation efforts, Red Rocks Initiative also initiated a project of replanting trees on the slopes of the Volcanoes. This program is quite significant because it aids the people living in these steep areas to improve their lives via environmentally safe and sound development projects. The project is also important in mitigating potential environmental Hazards that might wreck the lives of the local community like soil erosion, land degradation, landslides and deforestation.
Through Red Rocks network with volunteers, agro- forestry experts and community leaders we provide modern valuable technical know-how on agro-forestry, reforestation and sustainable development together with providing planting materials like seeds, seedlings and fertilizers through our initiative. We are proud that more than 300 local families have planted thousands of trees that have reclaimed large swathe of degraded land, leading to enrichment of land suitable for agricultural production. We have also trained local farmers in agro-forestry, fruit tree production, reforestation and vegetable production to improve their yields. Families have now begun seeing how agro-forestry may revolutionize their daily efforts, like gathering of firewood for domestic use, fertilize their soil, feed their domestic animals and make their yard gardens more productive. The initiative started as an effort to promote agro-forestry technique in one community. However, it has burgeoned to include district-wide integrated agro-forestry training program. The Red Rocks program is currently training approximately 20 families in Nyakinama Sector and has overseen planting of over 20,000 trees that has helped to minimize its carbon footprint and to create a healthy ecosystem for local birds and animals.
