Protecting and enhancing the basis for coffee cultivation

  • Published on December 1, 2022

A pilot project was launched by the Food & Biodiversity initiative in the Gia Lai Province of Vietnam to improve biodiversity in their coffee production. This was done by implementing biodiversity action plans using the Biodiversity Performance Tool. The results for this project included: good farming practices, increased vegetative layers, composting, awareness raising, and capacity building.

The Biodiversity Performance Tool used in this project to measure impact will cover biodiversity management and agricultural practices (i.e. agro-biodiversity). The focus on reducing negative impacts of agricultural practices will have positive impacts within the food systems sector by supporting the shift to sustainable consumption and production.
