Web portal: Sustainability Compass ('Kompass Nachhaltigkeit')

  • Published on December 17, 2019
The web portal "Sustainability Compass" provides information on the inclusion of sustainability criteria in public procurement as well as guidance on labels for different product groups. The website also contains practical examples of municipal tenders, council decisions, guidelines, service instructions and other documents as well as background information on sustainable procurement and legal principles. Furthermore, visitors to the website can submit their own best-practice-examples.
The value of goods and services procured publicly in Germany amounts to about 350 billion euros annually. This offers far-reaching opportunities for the public sector to act as a role model for sustainable consumption. The information platform "Sustainability Compass" intends to support and motivate those responsible for procurement to take social and ecological concerns more into account in their purchasing activities.
