Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production Program

  • Published on February 20, 2021
Indonesia has adopted and adapted RECP as a capacity building instrument for the achievement of Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) indicator and implemented to support the Ecolabel Program as a green label for goods and services. It is state in SCP Action Guideline and SCP Action Plan 2030 Document. The RECP programme was developed under the joint UNIDO-UNEP global RECP Programme to start improvements in resource productivity and environmental performance of manufacturing and related sector in Indonesia by adapting and adopting RECP methods, practice, technologies, and policies. RECP concerns the integrated and continued application of preventive environmental practice and total productivity techniques to processes, product and service to increase efficiency and reduce risks to humans and the environment. RECP is useful for enterprises (cost savings, productivity, and quality enhancements, etc), environment and climate, safeguarding employees, communities, and consumers, and indeed economy and society at large. Therefore, the national RECP programme was designed to mainstream and scale up RECP to a larger number and more diverse enterprises so that the competitiveness, resource productivity, and environmental benefits achieved in enterprises become relevant at cluster, sector, and/or regional levels.
RECP is useful for enterprises (cost savings, productivity, and quality enhancements, etc), environment and climate, safeguarding employees, communities, and consumers, and indeed economy and society at large. The results of the implementation of RECP can be verified and can be quantified, such as the amount of reducing use materials, energy, water, waste generation, GHG emissions, reducing production costs, etc. The results of this achievement represent of shifting production process from conventional to responsible / sustainable production so that it can be communicated through a green label scheme as a green product. With the availability of green products, the government or other stakeholder can encourage public to consume / procure green products. So, the RECP concept can be an instrument to support the sustainable consumption and production.
