youthinkgreen-egypt is inspiring, mobilising and empowering youth across Egypt to not only think green, but also to APPLY sustainable projects in their community. This organization is dedicated to solving environmental issues in their country and the world.
youthinkgreen Egypt consists of Egyptian youth willing to change the environment around them, taking their role in solving environmental Problems in their country and the world. youthinkgreen in Egypt consists of two groups following youthinkgreen-jugend denkt um.welt placed in Berlin, Germany, Europa Schule group and Cairo University group both are trying to find new solutions to problems facing our society and our world as well, cooperating with more than 300 youthinkgreeners from more than 30 countries worldwide. YTG Cairo University is a group of undergraduate students who are very concerned with environmental problems in their country and in the world. Throughout their activities they are trying to apply a solution to some problems that affect their society using what they have learnt in University and what they have gained by self-learning concerning these problems. Beside holding various events and seminars that will make Egyptian youth of different ages aware of the importance of green thinking and how they can start playing a vital role in changing the bad environmental habits into useful activities that will help reduce environmental problems. youthinkgreen-Egypt has three main projects: 1) Energy production: Egypt suffers from major energy problems. Somehow it is our duty to come up with ideas that may aid our community overcoming this issue. Also it is kind of our responsibility to keep the environment safe; with this and that in mind, the vision here is to construct prototypes of clean energy sources. Even though bio-gas may not be a novel solution, the application of it -with few adjustments- can help compensating for the lack of energy which we are facing now and hence a functional prototype of a bio-gas reactor is our objective as a start which may lead us -eventually- to a more sophisticated construct which can be used on a production level. 2) "Go green" is said a lot in many campaigns. Awareness is a good and simple way to encourage people to be as friendly as they can be towards the environment. Sometimes we face people who can give more than that, they start to feel that "go green" is becoming a cliche and they just need to understand or learn a thing or two to be pushed and to be of better service to the environment. Guiding youth with potential is the vision of that section; providing them with the required knowledge, drawing the outline for them and refining their talents and capabilities enabling them to achieve their goals which are of great positive impact on the community and the environment. 3) An easy way to deal with an issue is awareness; the only trick is to know how to make it effective. It is important to keep it simple, so that it would be easy to digest information or ideas and to understand them. The vision is to develop neat awareness campaigns helping people to understand the magnitude of the environmental problems which we have and helping them to find ways that can help in the cause of saving the environment. A model of an awareness campaign that has been adopted internationally in more than 10 countries is the "tree of hope"; just a tree that is made of recycled or recyclable material that is decorated by hopes of people written on small pieces of paper -it is fun and the overall idea gets clear for the participants-; it was applied in Cairo in 2013 and was of fine impact. In 2014, youthinkgreen-Egypt held its first summer school in Cairo aimed to provide youth who are interested in the field of renewable energy -solar energy in particular- with proper academic education, technical experience and needed skills to apply a project of their own design; along with having fun in the process "having fun is a key to innovation".
