Portugal Leading the tourism of the future

In 2027, the Secretary of State for tourism of Portugal adopted the Tourism Strategy 2027. The strategy was developed through a participatory process which involved all stakeholders in the country. It contains a vision, priorities and clear economic, social and environmental goals for the sustainable development of tourism in Portugal.
The Tourism Strategy 2027 wants to reaffirm tourism as a tool for economic, social and environmental development in Portugal as well as to position Portugal as one of the most competitive and sustainable tourism destinations of the world. The Tourism Strategy 2027 sets priorities and strategic axis with their respective lines of action. The priorities are as follows: Valorize the territory; Boost the economy; Enhance knowledge; Generate networks; Position Portugal The Tourism Strategy 2027 has the following goals: -Economic sustainability: increase the arrivals to the whole territory to 80 million overnights; grow in value and increase the receipts to 26,000 million euros. -Social sustainability: extend tourism activities throughout the whole year and reduce seasonality; double the number of tourism diploma holders (secondary and post-secondary education); ensure that tourism creates a positive impact for local residents. -Environmental sustainability: ensure that more than 90% of tourism businesses adopt energy and water efficiency measures and develop responsible waste management measures.
