Nutrition for All

  • Published on January 14, 2021
What if we could ensure access to (quality) nutrition for all people disregarding their gender, race, or socioeconomic status, without compromising on the livelihoods of (small) farmers and the boundaries of our planet? The co-branded research initiative is about nutritional inequalities & gaps around the world. The final white paper combines academic and practitioner views, with the aim to give it credibility but also provide actionable outcomes for Dole and the broader industry.
Closing the nutritional inequality gaps are not only a matter of understanding the differences in nutrition outcomes among different population groups but also put attention to the food ecosystems and processes that generate unequal distributions of outcomes. Achieving Nutrition for all in all these dimensions requires our food ecosystem to be completely reshaped. The co-branded research initiative is about nutritional inequalities & gaps around the world. The final white paper combines academic and practitioner views, with the aim to give it credibility but also provide actionable outcomes for Dole and the broader industry. The ambition is for the paper to become the lighthouse on the subject in the hallways of government, industry, and bodies like the UN and become the fundament for an open-source platform. In the research, a wide diversity of sources were consulted in order to maximize the value of the outcomes. The preliminary research is performed based on academic literature related to nutrition inequality and the food system. Qualitative data was collected from Nutrition for All Dinners on six locations across the world (Brazil, Zimbabwe, India, USA, Japan, Poland) by involving all stakeholders directly. All dinners are organized in collaboration with a member of the local ecosystem that enables the inclusion of the community and relevant stakeholders. This unique approach enabled the discovery of new insights regarding local problem perceptions of future challenges, opportunities, and grassroots movements. Existing and potential solutions are also analyzed.
