Arcenciel

arcenciel is a Lebanese based non-profit organization created in 1985 during the Lebanese civil war. arcenciel’s mission is to engage in the sustainable development of the society by supporting fragile groups and integrating marginalized people. Since its creation, arcenciel is non-denominational, non-political and works with and for anyone in difficulty.

arcenciel’s activities are socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable, achieved through three main axes: Social: care of persons in need, Environmental: preservation of natural resources and Economic: cost-efficiency and financial autonomy. arcenciel’s strategy is based on Community Work (assessment of community needs), Service-Providing Institutions (across Lebanon offering specialized services with and for beneficiaries), and Public Program (guarantying a legal structure and stabilizing the other two pillars)

arcenciel currently runs 9 programs: Agriculture, Environment, Mobility, Health, Responsible Tourism, Cultural, Social Support, Youth Empowerment, and Employment in centers distributed across all Lebanese regions. arcenciel is ISO 9001:2015 certified for management of projects.

As part of its core pillars of action, arcenciel contribute to a cleaner Lebanon by promoting the significant reduction of the use of single-use plastics, and acts as a reference in the country for recycling. Likewise, in its sustainable tourism program measures have been implemented to drastically reduce plastic consumption. This is the case in arcenciel’s restaurant & training kitchen, ecolodge unit, as well as on their farm. In their centers bottles of water are being replaced for traditional Lebanese jars, and oil cans are sent back to factories to be reused or recycled. Additional measures are being implemented such as the disposal of plastic straws, promotion of the re-use of shopping bags, and the replacement of packaging with more sustainable alternatives.
