The clim@ 2020 is a competition of businesses and projects from all over the world that work under the following themes: renewable energy, energy efficiency/ conservation, circular economy solutions, and resource efficiency (waste and water management). The 15 finalists with innovative ideas to protect the climate have been selected for the 2020 clim@ competition from over 200 impressive applications received from 60 countries.

As in previous editions of the competition, there is strong representation from the GGF target regions, namely, Southeast Europe, the European Eastern Neighbourhood Region, and the Middle East and North Africa. In addition, almost half of the finalists this year have presented solutions for a more circular economy, alongside a compelling set of applications focused on sustainable energy.

The event is initiated by the Green for Growth Fund. The GGF is an impact investment fund that has delivered investments worth EUR 1 billion to mitigate climate change and promote sustainable economic growth, primarily by investing in measures that reduce energy consumption, resource use and CO2 emissions.

Due to global pandemic of COVID-19, and to adhere to the safety guidelines as advised by global health authorities, the clim@ competition 2020 is changing its format, and will be held as a virtual (online) event on 2 June 2020.

The initiators of the competition took a proactive approach and decided against cancelling the event entirely, but rather chose to adopt an innovative and creative solution and conduct the competition via an online format. That’s why the competition will now be held virtually with finalists’ pre-recording themselves and sending their pitching videos to the organizers. A panel of highly experienced jury members will then evaluate each video on the 2 June 2020 through an online platform and conduct a Q&A session with each of the finalist. The selected 5 winners will then receive monetary prizes, as announced earlier.
