- Gary Morrison, CEO, Hostelworld Group
Since 1999, Hostelworld Group is a global Online Travel Agent (OTA) focused on the hostel market that provides support to hostels and hostel travelers. The company aims to connect young and independent travelers with over 17,700 hostel properties across more than 179 countries.
Hostelworld engages its stakeholders through different partnership opportunities with organisations that help to fulfill one of their core company value - Build a Better World. That is why, as a signatory of the GTPI, they will engage their global hostel partners to sign up to the common vision to drive change across the hostel sector when it comes to plastic waste.
In the framework of the Gobal Tourism Plastics Initiative, Hostelworld Group commits to:
Contacting its global hostel partners by September 2020 to encourage them to sign up to the initiative. The objective is to encourage around 500 hostels to commit within the framework of the GTPI by April 2021, and to make their participation visible on Hostelworld Group website.
Acting as the facilitator to advice and guide hostels to better manage plastics in their operations as most of them are small independent businesses. Hostelworld Group will keep those who sign up to the initiative informed on the latest best practice guidance. Hostelworld Group seeks to communicate updating their partners every 3-6 months and when relevant providing guidance.
Communicating successes to their corporate (partners, investors) and consumer (travelers) audience when meaningful updates are available and when stated milestones are reached. These updates will be published on their corporate website, and shared on their database and blogs/social channels.
Reporting progress of the implementation of their commitments to the GTPI within their public Annual Report each March, as well as at any appropriate public forum including conferences and investor presentations.
