1) As a first step, signatories must familiarise themselves with the Terms of Reference of the Initiative, which detail the background on the development of the initiative, its governance framework, key stakeholders and workstreams.

2) Secondly, potential signatories need to study in detail the Signatory pack for destinations, in particular the specific commitments for destinations which are explained in Section 2. Using the signatory pack for destinations as guidance, you can determine what commitments your organisations is going to make and with what targets.

3) As an optional step, you can complete the self-assessment survey to assess how ready is your destination to join the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative.

Assess how 'ready' your government/destination is to join the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative

Complete the assessment tool to get a snapshot of where your destination/government stands in relation to the requirements of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative. This tool will help you identify your strengths as well as gaps when it comes to tackling the plastics problem in the tourism sector. Once completed, the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative team will be happy to jointly discuss your outcome and provide further assistance.

4) Once you have confirmation of the detailed commitments your organisation will make, the last step is to complete the online signatory form for destinations on this page.

NB: it is strongly suggested that this commitment be signed by C-Level Leadership or equivalent. The involvement of C-Level leadership as ‘Single Point of Accountability’, be it the CEO, COO, Chief of Procurement, or equivalent, will ensure a transformational and more ambitious engagement.

Please also note that the signatory commitment form must be completed in one session and cannot be saved, so be sure to have all your information available at the time of commencing this form.

Once you have completed this online signatory form, the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative team will get in touch with you to send you a PDF summary of the commitments you have made which you will need to sign and return via email to;;

Thank you again for your interest in joining the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative and for taking action to transition to circularity in the use of plastics.
