Society for Sustainable Tourism The Society for Sustainable Tourism & Development, Inc. (SST) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization providing learning and capacity building for public and private stakeholders to attain excellence in sustainable tourism development and management, environmental conservation and stewardship, and sustainable consumption and production in the hospitality industry. The Objective is to help destination host communities, private estates and the tourism industry mitigate climate change, espouse social equity and responsibility as well as economic growth. 
 
Global Tourism Plastics Initiative Signatory

SST's approach is to implement green solutions to global issues with policies to practices, for grassroots growth underlining cultural, community and ecological legacy.

Regarding the use of plastics, they prepare training programs for destinations and private estates in which they urge them to eliminate single-use plastics as much as possible, and to re-purpose, recycle and reuse those that are not biodegradable.

In the framework of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative, Society for Sustainable Tourism commits to:

  • Continuing training and build capacity for their proponents about the reduction, reuse and recycling of plastics throughout their training and education programs, and urging their affiliates within the Asian Ecotourism Network, Green Destinations, Global Leaders, The Coron & Negros Initiatives and all the proponents of their training programs as Green Destinations Representative in Southeast Asia to join the GTPI. 
  • Training, educating and building capacity on the ecological solid waste management, as well as global sustainable tourism and green destinations standards. 
  • Communicating successes to affiliated organisations and businesses, partners, travellers and key local stakeholders.
