Rogers Hospitality Operations

Rogers Hospitality is an accommodation provider based in Mauritius. They encompass different companies and backgrounds, ranging from hotels and resorts to food and beverages. The company has embarked on a sustainability program, "Now For Tomorrow", to offer all its guests a responsible hospitality service. Within their operations, they implemented the following initiatives: all plastic straws have been eliminated, room key cards made of wood are now available, glass water bottles are served to guests (in-house glass bottling plant), all plastic cutlery eliminated,  refillable, reusable and recyclable containers are used for shampoo, conditioner and shower gel, slippers are delivered without plastic packaging, no plastic cups at the gym, and salt and pepper is in dispensers instead of single use packaging.

Commitments:

In the framework of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative, Rogers Hospitality commits to:
  • Stimulating the elimination of problematic or unnecessary plastic packaging, plastic items, single-portion or single-serving packaging from their rooms by 2022;
  • Eliminating plastic packaging and plastic items from their bathrooms by 2022;
  • Stimulating the elimination of problematic or unnecessary plastic packaging, plastic items, single-portion or single-serving packaging from their service areas by 2023;
  • Introducing reusable solutions to replace plastic packaging, plastic items, and single-portion or single-serving packaging in their rooms by 2022;
  • Introducing reusable solutions for plastic packaging and plastic items for their bathrooms by 2023;
  • Introducing reusable solutions to replace plastic packaging, plastic items, containers for cleaning products, and single-portion or single-serving packaging in their services areas by 2024;
  • Engaging suppliers and business associations to provide data on recyclability and composability of plastic packaging to facilitate the move towards 100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025;
  • Taking action to increase amount of recycled content across all plastic packaging and items by 2025 by engaging suppliers and business associations;
  • Establishing procurement criteria on reusability, recyclability, and compostability and a 2025 target on % of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable;
  • Collaborating with waste service providers, businesses, and key stakeholders in collection and segregation of recyclable and organic materials in their facilities to help increase recycling and composting rates in practice;
  • Investing resources and establishing proper training and means for staff to sort solid waste;
  • Reporting annually the progress of the implementation of commitments;
  • Reporting estimated weight (metric tonnes) of plastics purchased/procured.
