Postgraduate Program in Environment of State University of Rio de Janeiro - PPGMA/UERJ
The Postgraduate Program in Environment of State University of Rio de Janeiro - PPGMA/UERJ was structured with the objective of organizing, systematizing and consolidating a locus for the formation of human resources that meet the demands imposed by an agenda that is attentive to socio-environmental issues.
Over the past few years, the State University of Rio de Janeiro – UERJ has been working in an expressive manner in activities that demand specific knowledge in the environmental area related to teaching, research and extension, confirming its commitment in this regard to society.
In this perspective, the UERJ Graduate Program in Environment – created by Deliberation 070/04 of the Rectory of UERJ, recommended by CAPES in 2005, and classified by the same with a concept 4 – occupies a strategic place in the set of teaching and research organizations that develop interdisciplinary processes in Brazil. It is concerned with forming members of society capable of thinking about environmental problems from a systemic and interdisciplinary perspective.
The PPGMA/UERJ prepares its doctoral students to think about the territory and society in the face of the challenges of global environmental changes, aiming to contribute to ways of dealing with anthropogenic pressures on the physical environment, as well as for the provision of ecosystem services (food, materials raw materials), regulation (climate control, regulation of water cycles), cultural (recreational, spiritual, aesthetic) and support services (nutrient cycling, soil formation, primary production). It also aims to present technologies for the treatment of geographic space, aiming to contribute to the establishment of public policies that can help maintain the food, water and energy security of our country and future generations.
LINE OF RESEARCH - ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION
Research carried out in this line encompasses studies associated with aspects of the physical and biotic environment of continental and marine systems, their conservation, monitoring, use planning, considering their socially fair and environmentally sustainable distribution. The thematic universe addresses issues related to ecosystem services, environmental monitoring, land use dynamics, geotechnologies applied to environmental planning and monitoring (GIS, Remote Sensing), payments for environmental services, environmental and agricultural planning.
LINE OF RESEARCH - SOCIAL CONSTRUCTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT
Develop empirical studies and theoretical reflections, based on qualitative methodologies and theoretical perspectives in the area of social and human sciences, aiming to understand the processes of social construction of the environment, geographically located, which are primarily related to the thematic universe:

This page is the result of an extension project carried out at UERJ. It presents sustainable lifestyle and health nutrition contributing to reduce generation of solid waste and to achieve a better environment. All media files are elaborated with students and generates Instagram postings, you tube lives, website blogs, e-books, short courses and others.
The academic content available also helps high school students in their extracurricular work on Environmental Science, as well as teachers responsible for playful activities to work in the classroom and/or not distance learning, helping in the formation of more conscientious and critical citizens.
