Lanzarote Retreats

Lanzarote Retreats is an accommodation provider based in Spain. Their mission is to create an environment in which people can become aware of their larger environmental, social, political and economic impact as a tourist. They challenge their customers, as tourists, to reflect on their consumptive patterns and their footprints. They implemented a zero single-use plastic policy with an initial focus on the food sector. They work with companies that use non-plastic wrapping, or buy dried foods in bulk, selling them in returnable glass jars, incentivizing clients to be more aware of their waste, and start consuming within a closed-loop cycle. They aim to work with local companies that have zero plastic wrapping and if possible, work in a returnable deposit system, stimulating a circular economy. Finally, they partner with local NGOs Lanzarote Limpia and the Clean Ocean Project, to organize beach cleans.
