Role in programme(s):

Commitments:

"The Pandemic has given us the opportunity to reset and rethink the way we plan, develop, and manage tourism. As a country, we have recognized the gem hidden in our own backyards - "paradise in our backyard"- the natural resources which have always been our source of livelihood. The Pandemic has reminded us of our responsibility in protecting such resources for our generations to come. We therefore recognize the importance of sustainable development practices that will enhance our resilience to climate and disaster impacts in these challenging times. My country has taken a leadership role by being the first Pacific Island Country to become a signatory to the Pacific Leaders’ Sustainable Tourism Commitment. The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) will endeavor to be a role model, regardless of our challenges and the uncertainties ahead. We believe that out of adversity arises opportunity. It is indeed fitting that the Declaration has come at the right time to support the rebuilding of tourism across the globe. " President David W. Panuelo, President of the Federated States of Micronesia
