Environment and Social Development Organization-ESDO

The Environment and Social Development Organization-ESDO is an NGO that was created in 1990 and registered in 1992 in Bangladesh. The mission of ESDO is to promote and encourage an environmental movement through a participatory democratic framework involving diverse social groups, and to assist them with ideas, information, and leadership for promoting a safe, sustainable, and toxic-free world.

ESDO has helped more than 350,000 people in rural communities by providing capacity building for the wider community about how human activity can negatively impact the environment of Bangladesh. They promote responsible and plastic free tourism, that introduces plastic alternatives and stops using single use plastics. ESDO is implementing this eco-tourism project in the villages Munshiganj, Rangpur, and Natore in Bangladesh.

In the framework of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative, ESDO commits to:

  • Encouraging its affiliated organisations and businesses or partners to join the GTPI through networking, social media campaigns, and community-based initiatives.
  • Advising and guiding affiliated organisations and businesses or partners to better manage plastics in their operations through the tools that they used in their previously initiated zero-waste community building and advocacy campaign on plastic pollution on a regional, national, and global level.
  • Communicating successes to affiliated organisations and businesses, partners, travellers, and key local stakeholders
