City of Lappeenranta

The climate capital of Finland and European Green Leaf Award 2021 winner Lappeenranta is a solution-oriented pioneer in renewable energy and science education. The city's goal is to be carbon neutral in 2030 and preserve our unique Lake Saimaa environment for future generations. We, together with regional tourism marketing company goSaimaa, wish to cooperate with our tourism operators to support Finland and Lappeenranta region to become an inclusive and holistically sustainable travel destination. Tourism provides a perfect venue to foster sustainable development due to the special relationship between tourists and their host communities. Visitors can, through their interaction with hosts, increase their awareness when visiting natural areas and authentic historical sites while bringing tangible economic value and employment creation to local environments.
