Leaving no one behind: what does it take to scale up SCP?
Plenary Session 2
June 1st, 8:45 - 10:00
Please see the full recording of the session below
This plenary session assessed specific opportunities available for countries to embed Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in their development strategies. It addressed three angles: the UN system-wide perspective, the global normative processes (brought by the MEA’s), and country perspectives.
It focused on lessons learnt from a decade of implementation of the Framework of Programmes for Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP) and operational experience delivered by PAGE that have changed the way we think, act and inspire about sustainable consumption and production, so that post-pandemic recovery trajectories leave no one behind, deliver on global sustainability ambitions, and bring us on track by 2030. The session also focused on the importance of cooperation between key stakeholders, but especially across the UN system to facilitate SCP and SDG12 implementation across geographical divides. It encompassed high-level representatives from leading UN Agencies, Resident Coordinators and Ministries.
The aim of the session was to enhance a broader inter-Agency alliance for coordinated actions beyond 2022 that channel the right resources and capacity through existing and further programmes of work, that lead to a more tangible impact in a larger number of countries.
