Stefanos Fotiou is an expert on environment and sustainable development with over 27 years of experience in the United Nations system, private sector and research organisations. He currently serves as Director of the Office of Sustainable Development Goals in the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) as well as Director of the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, hosted by FAO. In these roles, Stefanos provides strategic leadership and oversees coordination mechanism to support countries on developing and implementing SDGs based agrifood transformations.

Alwin Kopse was appointed Deputy Assistant Director-General of the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG) in October 2018. He is associate head of the Knowledge Systems, Technology and International Affairs Directorate and leads the Unit for International Affairs and Food Security.
Alwin Kopse holds a MLaw of the University of Berne and an MSc in Public Policy and Management of the University of London (School of Oriental and African Studies). Before joining the FOAG in 2015, he was founding director of a consultancy firm in strategy development, sustainable development and change management. Before that, he held leadership positions at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, and in various organizations in civil society, the industry and in the public sector.

Emile Frison is a member of the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems. A Belgian national, he spent his entire career in international agricultural research for development, including six years in Africa in Nigeria and Mauritania. In 2003, he became Director General of Bioversity International and developed a strategy entitled “Diversity for Well-being” focusing on the contribution of agricultural biodiversity to the nutritional quality of diets and to the sustainability, resilience and productivity of smallholder agriculture.

 

Dr Frison is the lead author of the IPES-Food report “ From Uniformity to Diversity: a paradigm shift from industrial agriculture to diversified agroecological systems”. He is interim coordinator of the Coalition for food system transformation through agroecology and a member of the Africa Europe Foundation Strategy Group on Agriculture.

Pamela Mbabazi is a Professor of Development Studies and currently the Executive Chair of the National Planning Authority of the Government of Uganda. Previously, Prof. Mbabazi served as the Head of Research for the GIZ supported Africa Peace and Security Program in Addis and prior to that she was the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Mbarara Univeristy of Science and Technology in Uganda.

Ms. Ma. Estrella Penunia, or Esther as friends call her, is Secretary General of the Asian Farmers’ Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA) , a regional alliance of national farmers organizations or FOs  in Asia. Established in 2002, AFA is  currently composed of 22 national FOs in 16 countries, representing around 13 million small scale men and women farmers engaged in crops, livestock, fisheries, forestry, herding and pastoralism.  AFA promotes farmers’ rights to lands, waters, forests and seeds; sustainable, climate-resilient agro ecological approaches in farms , fisheries and forests;  strengthening farmers cooperatives and their enterprises;  women empowerment and attracting the youth to agriculture, through an integrated program on policy advocacy, capacity building and knowledge management. AFA promotes the effective implementation of the UNDecade of Family Farming at national and regional levels to harness the potentials of family farmers to contribute significantly to the work of ending poverty and hunger.

Per writes about food and wine in the weekend edition, DI Weekend of the Swedish daily business newspaper Dagens Industri. He co-founded and ran the gastronomic debate forum Skafferiet (The Pantry) in Stockholm and frequently appeared on Swedish public television SVT Gomorron Sverige 2012-2017 as an expert on food and beverages. At the innovation platform Openlab, run by four universities and Stockholm, Per is the host and editor of the podcast Matlaboratoriet made together with podcast producer Soundtelling.

His latest book, Smakens makt (The Power of Taste), is an autobiographical quest for the most captivating taste experiences worldwide. In the book, Per places the sense of taste in different contexts, all of which have great importance for society today. He also discusses the relationship between taste and the art of hospitality, the latest research on the interaction of the senses, the difficult task of eating both climate-friendly and healthy food, and the effects of myocardial infarction in 2014 on Per’s own diet and lifestyle.
