About the
One Planet network

A global movement for sustainable consumption and production

The One Planet network is a global community of practitioners, policymakers and experts, including governments, businesses, civil society, academia and international organisations, that implements the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production and works towards achieving SDG 12: ensuring sustainable patterns of consumption and production.

It is comprised of thousands of individual members; six thematic programmes and their partner organisations; numerous working groups; and over 140 national focal points for sustainable consumption and production within country governments. Serving as the secretariat of the 10YFP, the United Nations Environment Programme facilitates the One Planet network.

Collectively, the One Planet network holds enormous experience and expertise on sustainable consumption and production, and houses a global repository of projects, policies, tools and resources.

The One Planet network inspires a global movement for sustainable consumption and production, facilitating collaboration, cooperation and coordination to increase our combined knowledge, effectiveness and impact.

The One Planet network implements the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP), a global framework agreed by the 193 member states of the United Nations in 2012.

Raising awareness
and setting the agenda

The One Planet network raises awareness on sustainable consumption and production, and drives global advocacy to encourage action to transform awareness to action.

Through collaboration and coordination amongst our diverse global community, the One Planet network also sets the agenda on sustainable consumption and production, aligning actors around common objectives and facilitating the action that is needed to achieve these objectives.

How does the One Planet network work?

The One Planet network supports the global movement for sustainable consumption and production and brings the diverse pieces of the puzzle together to reduce fragmentation, increase transparency and show the big picture.

The One Planet network facilitates multi-stakeholder cooperation. It provides a space for the many different actors from across the world who are working on sustainable consumption and production to come together and share, learn, exchange, collaborate and coordinate our work.

It makes sense of the complex world of sustainable development and joins the dots between the many partnerships, initiatives and alliances that are doing important work on different components of sustainable consumption and production.

Driving systemic change for
sustainable consumption and production

The One Planet network is committed to transforming our economies to protect the nature we depend on and overcoming the three planetary crises of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.

Together, we are changing systems and building the nature-positive economy of the future.

Why join the One Planet network?

As members of the One Planet network, we can access tools and resources to inform our activities; leverage our work for the greatest possible impact; connect with experts and practitioners who can contribute to our projects; find connections and complementarities between initiatives to have greater impact and avoid duplication; and implement thematic and sectoral programmes and working groups.

By coming together within the One Planet network, the many actors and organisations working on sustainable consumption and production can increase our influence, effectiveness and impact, and collectively transform our economic systems and protect the nature on which we all depend.
