IN CONVERSATION WITH CANARY ISLANDS: BUILDING AN ISLAND WIDE NETWORK OF SOLUTIONS

WATCH THE RECORDING HERE.

This session is part of the mini webinar series on measurement of GHG.

This conversation is with José Juan Lorenzo Rodríguez. Managing Director of Tourism of the Canary Islands.

In March 2021,, the Canary Islands Destination strategy made climate action one of its three main goals. In 2022, the Tourism Organization of the Canary Islands signed the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism, and published their first Climate Action Plan.  And in 2023, they will launch a platform to support their islands’ tourism stakeholders to deliver on the three central Glasgow Declaration pathways of measurement, decarbonisation, and regeneration.

The discussion will cover:

  • How has your climate action developed?
  • How do you approach measurement?
  • What has the impact been on decarbonization?
  • What has the impact been on regeneration?
  • What advice would you give others considering a similar initiative?

Find out more here.

A series of case studies have been developed featuring the efforts of several signatories of the Glasgow Declaration to advance climate action with emphasis on their approaches towards measurement and its impacts on decarbonization and regeneration.

These conversations are being held to complement the “Overview of methodologies and tools to measure greenhouse gas emissions” released in March 2023.
