World Ecolabel Day - 14 October 2021

  • Published on October 14, 2021

A global day to celebrate ecolabel products and services that protect you and the planet.

More than 50 countries around the world celebrated World Ecolabel Day on October 14th. It is a day to focus on ecolabels for products and services that are proven to be environmentally preferable and performance tested.

Consumers, companies and communities worldwide celebrated World Ecolabel Day by discovering the ecolabels available in their own countries, buying and using third-party certified products and services, and sharing the good news with family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.

This year, the Global Ecolabelling Network used the day to launch their new international 'Look Closer' ecolabelling campaign. This campaign is designed to educate stakeholders about avoiding greenwashing and to help them insist on products and services with life cycle-based ecolabels.

About the Global Ecolabelling Network:

The Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN) is a non-profit association of leading life cycle ecolabelling organisations worldwide. GEN develops, promotes and supports its members by fostering cooperation, information exchange and standard harmonisation among its members and other ecolabelling programmes. The members of GEN set and publish life cycle-based environmental standards or criteria and certify products and services that meet the standards. To protect the environment and global health, GEN and its members provide information to help make purchasing decisions and choices easier by choosing life cycle ecolabelled-products.

Ecolabelling is a voluntary method of environmental performance certification and labelling that is practised around the world. An ecolabel identifies products or services proven to be environmentally preferable within a specific category. GEN members offer credible labels certified by an impartial third party for products or services that have been independently determined to meet transparent environmental leadership criteria based on life cycle considerations.
