The GTPI signatories contributed to the 2021 Global UNWTO Students League

The 2021 Global UNWTO Students League placed the focus on plastic pollution and rural development.

The competition attracted over 1,000 students. From these, 155 teams, representing 124 educational institutions in 45 different countries put forward their ideas. The final was held on 30 September 2021.

We would like to congratulate the winners of the plastic pollution challenge:

  • International School of Choueifat-Muscat, Oman (Middle School – 11-13) for their project “Carry Your Own Cutlery”
  • Team LBPC, Collège Notre Dame du Mont Carmel, Lebanon (High School – 14-18) for their high impact “call to action” video named “The Silent Killer”
  • Team Walkie Talkie, RMIT University Vietnam, Vietnam (Undergraduates) for their strategic plan for a five-star resort on Phu Quoc island, Kien Giang province to eliminate problematic and unnecessary plastics from its operations and implement reuse models
  • Team Swift Action, Beijing International Studies University, China (Masters) for their action plan for the plastic reduction and plastic limit design at the Beijing Shougang Industrial Cultural Tourism Park


In order to provide support to the participating students some training sessions were held of which the recordings are available:

-          Online learning Session - Waste Management on Airplanes: the Iberia case

-          Online learning Session - Plastics Management - The NH Hotels International case

-          Online learning Session - There is no Planet B, Plastics Pollution Challenge - withTrees4Humanity
