The Global Search for Sustainable Schools is on

  • Published on October 1, 2019
Nine countries across the world are coming together to run national competitions that will ask students to submit plans for making their schools sustainable.

The Sustainable Lifestyles and Education programme is running an exciting new project "The Global Search for Sustainable Schools" in 9 countries across Africa, Asia Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Global Search for Sustainable Schools will ask students to submit plans for making their own schools sustainable. The competition will award grants to the winning schools to implement their ideas from the beginning of 2020.

Which countries are involved?

The nine countries are Brazil, Cambodia, Kyrgyz Republic, Namibia, Philippines, South Africa, Suriname, Uganda, and Viet Nam. They have been split into three regions – Africa, Asia Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

How are the schools selected?

The selection criteria differs from country to country, but the global criteria on which they are based can be found in our global criteria page.

How can I get involved?

If you are in one of the implementing countries, details of the national competition can be found on the country pages. If you are not in one of the countries, but would like the Search to be expanded to your country in future years, please show your support by liking the FacebookInstagram and Twitter pages and signing up for the newsletter of the project.
