EVENT: Changing consumption patterns through Sustainability Information
Showcasing the need for new consumption patterns and how sustainability information could steer a sustainable path for the future are the main objectives of this event that will be held on 30 November at 13:00 to 16:00 BKK Time
The “three planetary crises” of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution have been on the centre of many discussions recently. Much has been said about the role of governments to change policies and create new laws that can address these issues. The private sector has also seen a rising demand to shift towards more sustainable production practices.
In this context, the role of consumers in forging a more sustainable future cannot be forgotten. While we have seen a rise of demand for sustainable products and services, it is true that this change is uneven around the planet.
Thinking about this and targeting specifically audience from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Vietnam, and Bhutan, GIZ, BMU and the One Planet network Consumer Information Programme are organizing the event “Changing consumption patterns through Sustainability Information”.
Seeking a multidisciplinary and multinational approach, this event will welcome government and sub-national authorities, public procurement practitioners, labelling and voluntary sustainability standard schemes, and members of the private sector (producers, manufacturers, retailers, and procurement practitioners).
In this manner, the event aims to increase the understanding of policies and tools that can promote sustainable consumption, and to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange among participating countries.
This debate come at a crucial time of action, when the countries involved continue to be affected by climate change, but need to rebuild their economies heavily affected by the Covid-19 crisis. Hopefully, the lessons learned from it will help them ground sustainable consumption as a pillar of their recoveries.
Speakers will include representatives from the United Nations Environment Programme, GIZ, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand, the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety of Germany, ECOS, Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute, and Ikano (Thailand) Limited.
