World Ecolabel Day
An initiative of the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN), World Ecolabel Day allows the role of ecolabels to be recognised and celebrated, and offers promotion of the products and services with ecolabels which help to protect consumers and the planet. In 2020, World Ecolabel Day will be 8th October. 25th October 2018 was the first #WorldEcolabelDay.
World Ecolabel Day allows the role of ecolabels to be recognised and celebrated and offers promotion of the products and services with ecolabels which help to protect consumers and the planet. Ecolabels have great value – a type 1 ecolabel provides independent third-party verification behind an environmental sustainability claim, ensuring that the products are not damaging to the environment. Type 1 ecolabels consider the whole life cycle of a product: from its inception, manufacture, distribution, use and disposal. Suggestions for promotion of World Ecolabel Day: Make a video of your favourite ecolabel product or service and post it on your blog, web or social media Use GEN's key messages to educate your followers on your Facebook, Instagram and Twitter Write a blog about your activities Write to your local paper Call your local TV and radio stations Put up posters at your school or place of work Send postcards to friends and family The day is designed to promote ecolabels and educate consumers about the value of them, and what products with ecolabels are available in their local area. More than 50 countries around the world celebrate World Ecolabel Day in October. It’s a day to focus on ecolabel products and services that are proven to be environmentally preferable and performance tested, so you are ensured the best products for your health and the health of the planet. Consumers, companies, and communities worldwide will celebrate this event by discovering the ecolabels available in their own countries, buying and using third-party certified products and services, and sharing the good news with family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. Email the GEN Secretariat firstname.lastname@example.org a description of your activities and pictures to be displayed on the GEN website.
