WEBINAR: Global Dialogue on the Role of Food and Agriculture in the Global Biodiversity Framework

This dialogue will bring together countries to highlight the important role of the food and agricultural sectors for the management, enhancement, conservation and restoration of biodiversity

The Food and Agriculture Organization, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, will hold a Global Dialogue on the Role of Food and Agriculture in the Global Biodiversity Framework and its High-level Segment. This event will raise awareness of ongoing international policy processes on biodiversity and position the agriculture sectors as key contributors to the sustainable management and custodianship of biodiversity.

FAO is fully committed to promoting sustainable practices that are biodiversity-friendly and deliver healthy food and prosperity for all while preserving our natural resources.

Outputs from these meetings will feed into discussions on the development of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework and the 15th Session of the Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity to be held in Kunming, China, next October 2021 (COP15).

The Dialogue and the High-Level Segment will bring together countries to highlight the important role of the food and agricultural sectors for the management, enhancement, conservation and restoration of biodiversity as a whole. Countries will also discuss about the role of food diversity in shaping and enhancing biodiversity. Speakers from around the world will participate in the following sessions:

  • Opening by QU Dongyu, FAO Director-General and Elizabeth Maruma Mrema Executive Secretary of the Convention of Biological Diversity
  • Session 1 Meeting People’s Needs through Sustainable Use of Biodiversity
  • Session 2 mainstreaming Biodiversity for the 4 betters: better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life.

HIGH-LEVEL SEGMENT: 7 July 10:00 – 17:30

  • Opening by QU Dongyu, FAO Director-General and Elizabeth Maruma Mrema Executive Secretary of the Convention of Biological Diversity
  • Keynote speech
  • Panel discussion I: The Global Biodiversity Framework: Supporting Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture
