Tackling biodiversity loss by communicating the links between biodiversity & consumption

We must act now to stop biodiversity loss caused by unsustainable consumption. To achieve this, well-targeted communication is key. Join us for the global public webinar on March 23, 2022 at 15:00 – 16:00 (CET). We will discuss impacts of conventional consumption patterns on nature and how targeted communication may help to tackle biodiversity loss and to make the links between consumption patterns and biodiversity more visible.

Existing consumption patterns play a role in the rapid degradation of nature and the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services. Although awareness of the value of biological diversity and nature’s contributions to our well-being is increasing, most consumers are still unaware of how their individual consumption is connected to the causes of biodiversity decline around the world.

How can we turn this around? How can we mainstream biodiversity and make it an integral part of the decisions we make when we consume? What motivates decision makers in business and policy to raise their ambition in lowering the negative impact of consumption and production on nature?

To develop solutions and to contribute to a paradigm shift, the One Planet network Consumer Information Programme set up the international Working Group 4 “Biodiversity Communication”.

This is the first public webinar where we want to show all interested stakeholders around the world how we approach this issue. The Working Group will give brief interventions on how consumption is connected with nature and what’s needed to raise awareness among consumers, policy makers and businesses. Furthermore, we will showcase the perspective from policy makers, business representatives and civil society discussing the role of communication to shift todays consumption patterns into nature-friendly consumption.
