SDG Learning and Training Workshop "System-thinking and policy planning for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SDG12): learning for impact across Agenda 2030"

  • Published on January 10, 2019
The objective of this workshop is to help Member States and stakeholders participating in the 2018 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development better understand the transformative dimension of Sustainable Development Goal 12 (SDG12) on Sustainable Consumption and Production and its centrality to Agenda 2030.
The overall objective of the training workshop was to help participants build their capacity to: 1. Explain the science behind resource efficiency and sustainable consumption and production; 2. Discuss the centrality of sustainable consumption and production across Agenda 2030, looking at the interlinkages that exist between SDG12 and other SDGs from resource efficiency, environmental impacts and human well-being standpoints; 3. Identify enabling conditions, policy tools and instruments that can support the mainstreaming of SCP into policy planning and implementation; 4. Outline steps for applying the sustainable consumption and production approach to a real-life policy-making context. The workshop was a collaboration between the 10YFP Secretariat and UNITAR, and involved the International Resource Panel secretariat. Very positive feedback was received from the participants: 95% stated that the event was completely or mostly useful. Here are some comments received: "The systems thinking analysis was quite illuminating" "Worth to integrate with work on transparent institutions and access to information." "I will use (the knowledge and skills developed at the training workshop) to teach on sustainability and educate trainers."
