EVENT: Food Systems challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean - at the crossroads of natural resources, livelihoods and nutrition

  • Published on April 1, 2019
A Regional Workshop organized by FAO and UN Environment under the One Planet SFS Programme supported by the governments of Costa Rica, Switzerland, South Africa, Hivos and WWF.

Attended by representatives of Ministries of Agriculture, Environment and/or Sustainable Development, NGOs, research institutes, universities, UN agencies and parliamentarians from more than 15 countries, the Workshop had as objectives: exchanging experiences of successful regional initiatives on sustainable consumption and production and identification of core challenges and recommendations to progress towards more sustainable food systems.

Through participatory deliberations, the Workshop agreed on the need to: tackle all forms of malnutrition, support the production and consumption of healthy and sustainable food and ensure their affordability, accessibility and attractiveness, provide consumers with information about the sustainability of products, involve all stakeholders of the food systems and break silos and rethink policies in order to address incoherence across sectors.
