EVENT: Circular Built Environment Supporting Innovation in Cities

DATE: Wednesday 12 February
TIME: 2:00-4:00 PM
LOCATION: World Urban Forum, Abu Dhabi, Hall 2 Room 3
The contemporary construction sector can learn much from traditional building cultures and approaches to vernacular constructions – the use and reuse of local building materials, demolition waste and byproducts from other sectors, practices of minimizing waste and sharing skills and tools. In fact, many of these aspects are in the heart of what we today understand as circular economy.
By combining novel technologies with local materials and traditional practices, we can support the development and mainstreaming of locally based circular innovations. The One Planet network Sustainable Buildings and Construction Programme (SBC) has analysed the state, challenges and opportunities of circular built environment in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
This networking event will share the findings of these reports, highlighting the role of local innovations in promoting sustainability in circular built environments.
The event will feature a keynote speech, an expert panel, and an open dialogue on how to promote circular built environment to achieve transformative change.
