EVENT: 13th MAC meeting of the SFS Programme

The SFS Programme held its 13th Multi-stakeholder Advisory Committee (MAC) meeting between 11-12th October 2019 at the FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy, prior to the 46th Session of the Committee on Food Security.

The most remarkable discussion points, achievements and decisions are as follows:

Renewal of Co-Leadership and MAC terms

Co-Leads renewal:

• The MAC has confirmed Costa Rica (Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock) as new co-lead.
• Costa Rica joins WWF and Switzerland (FOAG) in their role as Co-Leads for a second term.

MAC renewal:

• The MAC has confirmed results from the application process to fill in new MAC member seats for a new 2-year term.

Next global conference of the SFS Programme

The MAC agreed to hold the SFS Programme's 3rd Global Conference at the end of 2020, presumably in Bangkok, Thailand, and shape it as a stepping stone towards the UN Food Systems Summit (see information on the Summit below!). The MAC decided that the SFS Programme shall seek to be actively involved in the process leading to the Summit. The priorities for the SFS Programme’s workplan 2020-2021 will be adjusted accordingly.

Cross-programme collaboration

The MAC meeting also saw discussions on cross-programme collaboration. On one hand, concerning the SFS Programme's contributions towards the initiative on plastics of the One Planet network. On the other hand, concerning a collaboration around public procurement with the One Planet network Sustainable Public Procurement Programme, in fulfillment of one of the points in the call to action of the 2nd Global Conference of the SFS Programme.

Additionally, the MAC confirmed four new partners and two affiliated projects.
