Alejandra Safa Barraza
Gender and development expert
Alejandra Safa Barraza holds a degree in Social/Rural Development, a Master in Adult Education and a Master's degree on Gender and Social Policies. For over 30 years as a consultant, Alejandra built her mix of technical and organizational capacities by working for national counterparts such as governmental institutions, NGO’s and for international development partners.
Since 2013, Alejandra supports FAO’s cross-cutting theme on gender in Inclusive Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division as a gender and value chain expert. In this role she contributes to promote inclusive and sustainable food systems, supports efforts to strengthen capacities of countries and key stakeholders towards gender equality and women´s empowerment in areas of agri-food value chains, women´s entrepreneurship and food loss reduction.
Currently, she coordinates the Subprogramme Empowering women in food systems and strengthening the local capacities and resilience of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the agrifood sector covering different regions.
