Our aim is to reduce negative environmental and social impacts of all our activities and participate in the local economy by giving preference to local goods and services and using accommodations owned by locals. We are also committed to helping our clients and partners to do the same.

Our Sustainability Policy is based upon the following principles:

  • To provide a healthy, safe and supportive working environment for our team.
  • To sensitize our supply chain and work with partners on sustainability.
  • To include the Travel XS team in an internal sustainability management and increase awareness.
  • To ensure clients and suppliers are aware of our sustainability policy and to encourage them to adopt sound sustainability management practices.
  • To review, annual reports and to continually strive to improve our sustainability performance.

Practical steps:

In order to put these principles into practice we will adopt the following measures:

Purchasing and consumption of resources:

  • Minimize our use of paper and other office consumables, for example by using both sides of the paper.
  • Minimize waste wherever possible and promote recycling.
  • Reduce energy consumption of office equipment by replacing old equipment with more environmentally friendly models
  • Minimize our use of air conditioning and turn off lights when not in use, whilst ensuring that our lights are low-energy usage (CFL).
  • Ensure computers are on power saving mode.
  • Avoid use of plastic wares in the office by substituting with a Glass or a flask for drinking water and use ceramic wares for serving tea in the office instead of disposable cups.
  • Minimize our water use and ensure that wastewater is responsibly disposed of.
  • Purchase products for housekeeping, such as cleaning products that have sustainability certification or are more environmentally friendly (e.g. Gandhi Gramudhyog / Khadi shops).

Supporting the Community:

Travel XS initiates and supports community investment and educational programs. For example;

  • We provide support to helpless and less privileged children by paying fees for their higher education.
  • Purchase of daily vegetable and fruits that are locally produced and from local vendors to extend support to local community. We also employ tour guides and cooks from local community.
  • We promote cultural and economic development of global and local communities.
  • Most of our staff is from the local community.
  • Travel Xs prefers to use former Poachers who are now trained guides for Trekking from the Local community.

Sustainable supply chain management:

  • Give preference to more sustainable transport options whenever feasible, both for our employees and clients e.g. Vehicle pooling, Small walks, Cycling etc….
  • Use accommodation which has sustainability certification or, if not available, give preference to accommodation providers that are committed to improving their sustainability performance.
  • Avoid using car for shorter distance especially inside villages to reduce the carbon foot prints and prefer to walk or take bicycles for the same.
  • We highly recommend and encourage using Tented Camps over concrete building especially at Hilly regions while on Trekking tours as a measure to prevent and reduce Carbon Foot prints and promote sustainability with all the safety measures for our client. The tents are erected by us.
  • We engage the fisherman Community by providing a memorable experience of a ride in their Kattumaram (Fishermans Boat) on No profit no loss basis with the aim to provide an added means of livelihood for the fisherman.
  • Develop innovative travel experiences that use sustainability as their base and refrain from offering activities with negative environmental and social impacts.

Working practices and advice to clients:

  • Participate in voluntary work and events related to social and environmentally friendly activites.
  • Communicate to our clients and suppliers the actions that we have taken and educate them to be more responsible.
