Mainstreaming SCP and circular models
Mainstreaming sustainable consumption and production policies and circular economy models: best practices and recommendations

At the fourth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly, held in March 2019, the Resolution 1 on Innovative pathways to achieve sustainable consumption and production , and its operative paragraph 15, requested ‘’the Executive Director to submit a report providing an overview of best practices, including their impact on the design of products and services, minimizing harmful environmental impacts, and coherent product policies to decouple economic growth from environmental degradation through sustainable consumption and production, and providing recommendations for consideration by the Environment Assembly at its fifth session’’.
The project ‘’Mainstreaming coherent and effective sustainable consumption and production policies, including through circular economy models: best practices and recommendations” aims to accompany policy makers and help them to appreciate the need to set up an integrated and coherent policy package for impactful results, through:
- An overview of existing coherent SCP and circular policies, which aim at decoupling economic growth from environmental degradation
- A set of case studies illustrating current successful design practices of products/services, which minimize harmful environmental impacts of products throughout their lifecycle
- Recommendations on the design and implementation of coherent SCP or circular policy packages that contribute to boost resource efficiency and decouple economic growth from environmental degradation and foster good practices related to sustainable design of products and services.
