The aims of the Strategy are as follows: to provide a strategic policy framework to secure a sustainable future for the Mediterranean region; to adapt international commitments to regional conditions, to guide national strategies and to stimulate regional cooperation in the achievement of sustainable development objectives; to link the need to protect the environment to socio-economic development.
SCP Action Plan for the Mediterranean (consultation paper) details the main policy milestones for the SCP approach at the global and Mediterranean level. It set the framework of action for the Mediterranean context, detailing the major environmental issues, key SCP challenges for the region and suggesting key economic sectors within which SCP actions should be prioritized to ensure greats impacts.
As the Focal point of the National Policy Component of SWITCH-Med, the Ministry of Environment (MoE) in Lebanon is developing an SCP Action Plan for the Industrial Sector in Lebanon, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Industry (MoI) and other key partners. The SCP Action Plan development process will provide Lebanon with a participatory and consultative approach for mainstreaming SCP in the industrial sector’s policies and plans.
This policy brief, published in English and Arabic, is intended to bring sustainable public procurement (SPP) to the attention of public procurers and policy makers in Lebanon, as well as stakeholders in the private sector and civil society. It introduces SPP as good procurement considering more than the green and environmental dimension, and details its contribution to sustainable development.
The policy brief provides guiding principles, highlights countries' experiences, exposes the impact of SPP on economic gain, environment protection and social inclusion of disadvantaged groups, and screens opportunities for developing countries.
This brief sheds light on the efforts of the Lebanese Ministry of Finance made to introduce SPP as a core pillar of the modernization process and proposes policy advice for the design and implementation of SPP policies in Lebanon.
