Unlocking and Scaling Climate Solutions in Food Systems

  • Published on November 4, 2022

The ambitious goals set out in the Paris Agreement will remain just that – goals – if we do not focus on transforming our food systems because they account for a third of global greenhouse gas emissions. In their new report, WWF assesses countries’ progress on including food systems in their revised Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

The Paris Agreement makes specific references to mitigation and adaptation in food systems. The Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement provide a platform to bring all policy priorities together and plan and implement food systems measures in a holistic manner. NDCs are at the heart of the Paris Agreement and the achievement of long-term climate goals. They embody efforts by each country to reduce national emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
