Tourism for All, barrier-free tourism in Germany

  • Published on November 26, 2018
The project "Introduction of the labeling & certification system "Travel for All" was developed over several years of cooperation and coordination with tourism stakeholders. Numerous federal states, some regions and a hotel cooperation are already using the labeling system (as of March 2018). There are already a number of good examples and initiatives in different regions, but barrier-free tourism offers are far from being found everywhere in Germany.
The aim of the new project is therefore to introduce the "Travel for All" labeling system nationwide and to promote the development and marketing of accessible offers through various measures. Barrier-free tourism is one of the few segments with growth and great economic potential in Germany. Accessibility is essential for about 10% of the population, 40% helpful and 100% comfortable. The demographic trend, which brings with it a significant increase in the number of elderly people, and thus a growing number of people with disabilities and mobility, underlines the urgency. (1)Creation of a nation-wide labeling and certification system for barrier-free tourism offers in collaboration with tourism marketing organisations and organisation representing the interest of people with disabilities (done) (2) Design and programming of a database for online marketing purposes by tourism and destination marketing organisation and nation-wide operating tourism service providers (ongoing).
